Maid in Manhattan Movie Analysis Essay A Maid in Manhattan, takes place in modern Manhattan, New York. The main character, Marisa Ventura is a poor hotel maid. While she cleaned a rich womans room, a friend urged her to try on the woman’s expensive clothes. Meanwhile, her son, Ty, has befriended Christopher Marshall, a wealthy republican candidate for the senate. When Ty brings the candidate to the room, Marisa is mistaken for the rich woman, Caroline. After a number of events, Marisa continues to portray her identity of the rich woman, and hide her real identity, while she continued to see Christopher. He invites her to come to a banquet for poverty. After the party, â€Å"Caroline,† disappears, and Christopher is unable to find her. The real Caroline shows him who Marisa is, a maid. Months later, Christopher speaks at the hotel Marisa worked at, while Ty brought his mother Christopher once again. Christopher expressed his love for Marisa, and they lived happily ever after. The movie, A Maid in Manhattan, h as Cinderella qualities, but in a modern day setting. There are many debates whether or not this categorized as a Cinderella story, but there are many similarities that I believe make it one. In Disney’s classic, Cinderella is swept off her feet and married to the prince, and escapes her house chores and evil step mother. Marisa dates a senatorial candidate, is married to him, and leaves her job as a maid. Both of these women go from rags-to-riches. However, Marisa does not have a fairy godmother, instead she has support from her coworker friends, and Ty. They make it possible for Marisa to go to the ball. Wealth plays a large roll in the movie. The prince-like character, Christopher Marshall likes Marisa because he thinks she is wealthy. She stayed in the Parks suite, in a fancy hotel. Just like in Disney’s Cinderella Story, the poor girl that works hard goes to the ball, for the wealthy prince.
